OASIS Coffee – Celebrating Greek Coffee Heritage Since 1969

In the 1960s, Byron Theofanis was serving fish and chips in Brunswick when he had an idea: why not bring the rich, comforting taste of Greek coffee to Melbourne? From the backyard of his brother’s shop on Victoria Street, Byron began roasting and pulverising coffee that would soon become a beloved ritual for Greek families far and wide.

By the 1980s, brothers Dennis and Peter Patisteas, together with Paul Theodore, took OASIS to the next level, anticipating the vibrant coffee culture we enjoy in Australia today. Now led by the next generation — Peter Patisteas (son of Dennis and nephew of Peter) and his brother-in-law Chris Togias — OASIS roasts and pulverises almost 50 tons of coffee each month at their modern Mulgrave facility, carefully blending tradition with precision and quality.

OASIS isn’t just coffee; it’s a daily connection to home, family, and culture. For Australia’s Greek, Balkan, Turkish, and Arabic communities, brewing a cup of OASIS in a traditional copper briki is more than a morning ritual — it’s a moment of comfort, a taste of nostalgia, and a way to stay connected to one’s roots. Today, the brand also offers caffeine-free options for evening drinkers, those sensitive to caffeine, and anyone prioritising health and wellbeing.

Earlier this February, Greek Plateia visited the OASIS head office and roastery, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the care, expertise, and passion that goes into every batch. The brand also plays an active role in the community — from supporting cultural events like the Antipodes Festival to partnering with organisations such as Melbourne City Mission.

Available in supermarkets, delis, and continental grocers nationwide, OASIS continues to bring the flavours and traditions of Greek coffee culture to Australians of all generations — one authentic cup at a time.
